If you are not aware of my feelings on horror games, let’s just make some things clear. I love them. I also hate them. I’m a screaming crybaby in the moment, and find that whole experience a lot of fun. It’s even more fun when I can humiliate myself as a screaming crybaby in front of friends. Welcome the coop horror like this in development game by Question. The Blackout Club is a game about an occult conspiracy that has taken one of your friends. The only way to see your foe and know where it may attack next is to close your eyes.
Story in The Blackout Club
You play as a teenager living in suburbia, with all of its average and normal glory. That is except for the strange nightly occurrences which leave you waking up covered in mud and scratches every morning with no memory of what happened. The weirder part here though is that you’re not the only nutcase experiencing the psychosis. There is actually a whole gang of other teenagers who are doing the same thing. You bond over your experiences and soon they are your best friends.
You begin to explore and investigate your small town together to try to figure out why you are blacking out nightly. Strangely, you uncover weird underground tunnels. Soon after the discovery, one of your friends vanishes. Now, not a single adult will believe you. You must have caused some disturbance though because the adults are now looking for you, and trying to get rid of you and your friends. It’s up to you to try to find your friend and collect evidence to uncover what is really happening here. The only problem is that you can’t always see your assailants.
The game is coop and you can team up with up to four friends to play. You go through the maps of the suburban town, using your cell phone to record evidence as you evade the adults and surveillance equipment. You work together to keep each other safe as you collect evidence and items to prove the truth of what has happened there. However, there are more dangers than you may see. If you draw too much attention to yourself, you can trigger The Shape to come after you . The Shape is an unseen entity that can capture players. The only way to detect the movements of it is to close your eyes. Then you will be able to see the outline of the Shape and how it may be coming after you or your friends. There is a huge variety of enemies and places to play, providing a new experience of the game every night you play.
Where can I play it?
The good news is that The Blackout Club is out on early access on Steam right now. So if you are a Windows user and want to play early, you can! When the full version releases, it will be out on PS4 and Xbox One as well. But, we don’t know exactly when that will happen.
